Former Richmond Kicker Tim Brown earned a trip to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa with New Zealand, downing Bahrain in the second leg of the their qualifying series 1-0 after a scoreless draw in the first leg on the road. Former PDL striker Vedad Ibisivec finds his Bosnia side trailing after their first leg against Portugal.

Bravos coach in Brazil

RGV Bravos FC Technical Director Ismael “Moreira” Braga traveled to Brazil where he will meet with executives of the Brazilian Soccer Federation as well as with various First Division teams.

Timbers announce tryout dates

The Portland Timbers today announced the club’s 2010 tryout schedule, which will include the annual invite-only combine and an open tryout. The open tryout will be held January 23-24, while the invite-only combine will take place January 30-31.

Calloway returns to Des Moines

In a press conference this afternoon at Krause Gentle corporate headquarters, the Des Moines Menace officially announced that Laurie Calloway is the team’s new head coach and the Menace Academy’s Director of Coaching. The Birmingham, England native returns to Des Moines seven years after he led the 2002 Menace to an undefeated regular season.

FC Twente backs new Dayton club

United Soccer Leagues announced that Dayton, Ohio will be home to the newest expansion club in the Premier Development League, the Dayton Dutch Lions. The new club is supported, in part, by Dutch Eredivisie leaders and UEFA Europa League entrant FC Twente, and will begin play in 2010.
