PDL Conference Playoff hosts announced

TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced today the hosts and schedule for the 2004 Conference Playoffs to be held the weekend of July 23-25.

Carolina, Central Florida, Fresno and Fort Wayne were announced as the hosts of the four-team tournaments for the upcoming weekend.

The Carolina Dynamo will play host to fellow Mid Atlantic Division member Williamsburg Legacy as well as the defending two-time champion Cape Cod Crusaders and unbeaten South Jersey Barons of the Northeast Division in the Eastern Conference tournament.

The tournament will open Friday with the conference semifinals beginning at 5:30 pm. Williamsburg, the last team to qualify for the postseason, will face South Jersey and Carolina will take on Cape Cod. The final will be Saturday at 7:30 pm.

The Central Florida Kraze will play host to fellow Southeast Division member Cocoa Expos as well as the Mid South’s runaway duo of the El Paso Patriots and DFW Tornados in the Southern Conference tournament.

The tournament will open Friday with the conference semifinals beginning at 6:00 pm. Cocoa will face former A-League side El Paso and the Kraze will take on first-year DFW. The final will be Saturday at 8:00 pm.

The Fort Wayne Fever will play host to fellow Great Lakes Division member Michigan Bucks as well as the finalists from the last two PDL finals, the Boulder Rapids Reserve and unbeaten Chicago Fire Reserves of the Heartland Division in the Central Conference tournament.

The tournament will open Friday with the conference semifinals beginning at 6:00 pm ET. Michigan will face 2002 finalists Boulder and Fort Wayne will take on 2003 finalist Chicago. The final will be Saturday at 8:30 pm ET.

The Fresno Fuego will play host to fellow Southwest Division member Orange County Blue Star and the Northwest Division’s Cascade Surge and Spokane Shadow in the Western Conference tournament.

The tournament will open Friday with the conference semifinals beginning at 8:00 pm ET. Orange County will take on Spokane and Fresno will face Cascade. The final will be Saturday at 10:30 pm ET.

The four conference tournament winners advance to the PDL semifinals next weekend for the right to play in the PDL championship Saturday, April 7. The championship game will be broadcast on Fox Sports World.

All playoff hosts are determined by a bid process. First round match-ups are determined by finish in the division with the top team from one division playing the second team from the opposing division.
