LOS ANGELES, CA -- The Los Angeles Legends Men’s PDL team continued their undefeated streak with a 5-0 win over the San Fernando Valley Quakes on Friday, May 23, 7:30pm, at Azusa Pacific University’s Cougar Stadium.

By winning the match by at least two goals, the LA Legends also qualified for the US Open Cup -- the first time ever in franchise history.

The win, and a record of 3-0-1, launches the team into first place in the Southwest division of the PDL. Scoring 11 goals, and allowing none, the Legends are the only team in their division to hold opponents scoreless in their first 4 matches.

The LA Legends knew they needed to win the game by a 2-0 difference to guarantee their entry into the US Open Cup.

Bryan Fakkema opened the scoring in the 24th minute, followed three minutes later by a goal from Kevin Gallaugher. Both assists went to Ian Etherington.

Throughout the first half, the Legends dominated play, spending the majority of time in their opponents half. The LA Legends showered the goal with two shots for every one from their opponent. (Shots 11:5).

Despite wet conditions, the Legends would add three more goals to seal their fate. Coming off the bench, midfielder Andrew Villalobos scored in the 71st minute, assisted by David Barnett. Reid Baker also subbed in and scored in the 85th and 89th minutes, assisted by Etherington and Mario Guerrero. Goalkeeper Douglas Brent picked up the shutout with 5 saves.

The LA Legends face their next opponent on the road, Saturday, May 31st, 7pm taking on the Southern California Seahorses. Both the LA Legends Men & Women’s teams return home for a double-header on Wednesday, June 11th. The LA Legends Women face the Vancouver Whitecaps Residencyat 5pm, followed by LA Legends PDL versus Orange County Blue Star at 7:30pm. All matches are at Azusa Pacific University’s Cougar Stadium.
