Boulder, Colorado – A year after becoming the world’s first carbon-neutral soccer team, Colorado Rapids U-23 is still spreading its “kick global warming” message via the world’s most popular sport. This time the Rapids are hosting the first annual green adult soccer tournament to be held in eco-conscious Boulder, Colorado June 21 and 22.
In keeping with the USL Premier Development Team’s eco-goals, the first Kick Global Warming Adult Soccer Tournament is inviting 48 teams from around the U.S. to Boulder’s Pleasant View Soccer Complex to compete, and offsetting 100 percent of the carbon emissions (CO2) released in the process of the teams’ travel, their stay in Boulder, and the tournament itself.
“It’s a great chance for teams from around the country to have some fun on the fields while staying in one of the most beautiful and environmentally friendly cities in the nation, all without adding to global greenhouse emissions,” says tournament organizer Peter Ambrose.
“This tournament provides another way of bringing attention to global warming via the world’s game,” says Ben Bressler, founder and director of U-23 corporate sponsor Natural Habitat Adventures (www.NatHab.com). The award-winning ecotour provider, and first carbon-neutral travel company, is paying to offset greenhouse gas emissions for all participating teams in the June tourney through top-rated carbon off setter Sustainable Travel International.
The two-day tournament is accepting registration from local teams as well as out-of-state teams. Teams are guaranteed three games, with prizes for division winners and runners-up including team trophies, championship shirts and free beer from the tournament beer sponsor. Every registering team receives 15 free tickets for one of two Colorado Rapids U-23 USL/PDL games taking place the same weekend.
