LOS ANGELES, CA -- The Los Angeles Legends team entered the match playing with strength and confidence. The evening prior to their game against top-ranked Fresno Fuego, the Legends had every intention of bagging a 3 point win, particularly knowing they had previously beaten the Frogs 2-1 on the road.
Legends’ forward, Davis Paul scored in the 11th minute, but San Jose equalized on a free kick less than five minutes before half-time. Despite two more unassisted goals from Paul in the 52nd and 63rd minutes, LA allowed San Jose to slip a total of 3 balls into the net for a 3-3 tie.
Paul, who plays at Cal Berkley, is the scoring leader for the Legends, racking up 9 goals and 3 assists in 7 matches. His second goal was a crowd-pleasing curving free-kick. From well outside the 18-yard box, he found a gap in the wall and bent the ball through and to the left, just beyond the keeper’s reach.
Legend’s goalkeeper, Patrick Lane had 5 saves, including several key punches off the line, and a point blank deflection in the 71st minute.
The 3-3 tie holds the LA Legends in 2nd place in the Southwestern division with a total of 6 wins, 2 losses and 3 ties. However, the Legends are still 2 points out of first place, with 5 games remaining. Tonight’s game was played at Azusa Pacific University’s Cougar Stadium at 7:30pm.
The LA Legends must recover quickly as they play their next game on Saturday, June 28th, a rematch against the Fresno Fuego, also at 7:30pm. The Saturday match is a double-header with the LA Legends W- League team playing the Fort Collins Force at 5pm. All home matches are at Azusa Pacific University’s Cougar Stadium.
