BROOKLYN, NY --- Forward Mathias Carrizo scored his first hat-trick of the season to propel the Brooklyn Knights to their first home victory of the season in a 5-1 victory over the New Hampshire Phantoms on Sunday evening at the Aviator Sports and Recreation complex.

The Knights got on the board quickly as Frank Alesci found his fellow LIU teammate Mohammed Mashriqi from 15 yards away to beat Phantoms goalie Phil Tuttle. Right before the half the Knights defenseman Sotirios Dimtrakopoulous launched a 30 yard headman pass to Carrizo for his first goal of the evening in the 42nd minute.

The Phantoms got on the board three minutes into the second half as the Knights pulled down one of their forwards, as then Sean Coleman connected on a penalty shot past Knights goalie Chris Antonino.

The Knights then went back on the attack as Carrizo added his second goal of the contest on an assist from Mashriqi off a rebound in the 49th minute. In the 57th minute captain Jeff Matteo took a free kick from 35 yards away and found defenseman Javier Gonzalez, who booted it past back-up Jay Mayo to add the lead at 4-1. Later in the 62nd minute Carrizo finished off his hat-trick after a pass from Alesci to knock in a 25 yard shot.

“I’m pleased with the game and how we played as a team," Carrizo said. “I was feeling good, my teammate put me in the right position, scoring is always good, however winning is the key."

“We played better today, the team is clicking and this is when we need quality wins," said Coach Giuseppe Balsamo

The Knights will be on the road next as they take on the New Jersey Rangers on Saturday, May 23rd at 7:00 PM ET before coming home to take on Arch Rival Long Island on Tuesday, June 2nd.
