USL News Release

Monday, October 26, 2009

TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced today that three teams will be honored at 10+Clubs during the USL Hall of Fame ceremony at the USL Annual General Meeting this November. The Charlotte Lady Eagles, Ottawa Fury and Thunder Bay Chill will be recognized for completing 10 years of competition.

Three individuals, who will be announced over the coming days, will also be honored as inductees into the USL Hall of Fame.

Charlotte Lady Eagles (W-League)

Founded in 2000, the Lady Eagles have been one of the most successful teams in the W-League, reaching the playoffs in nine of their 10 seasons. As members of W-2, Charlotte were finalists in 2000 and won the W-2 Championship in 2001.

The club’s all-time regular season record is three wins away from the century milestone at 97-24-9. They are also 12-8-1 in the postseason.

The Charlotte Eagles men’s team was recognized as a 10+ Club during the inaugural Hall of Fame ceremony in 2002.

Ottawa Fury (W-League)

Since missing the playoffs in their first three years from 2000-02, the Fury have become a powerhouse in the W-League and are arguably the most successful team without a league championship. Ottawa has reached the playoffs seven straight years with five semifinal appearances and two runners-up finishes.

The team’s all-time regular season record is two victories away from the century mark with a record of 98-23-13. They are 14-8-0 in the playoffs. The 2005 and 2007 regular season W-League champions are the first Canadian W-League team to be recognized as a 10+ Club.

The Fury also feature a Premier Development League team that is headed toward its sixth season in the league and numerous youth development sides in the Super Y-League.

Thunder Bay Chill (PDL)

The first Canadian PDL team to be recognized as a 10+ Club, the Chill have become one of the top teams in the league recently, finishing one point shy of the regular season championship in 2008. Thunder Bay, however, went on to capture the 2008 PDL Championship in their second postseason appearance.

Their 5-1-0 playoff record combined with their 75-80-17 all-time regular season record has the team just one win shy of the .500 mark.
