BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS — With 18 players of its 22 man roster and the local media present, the RGV Bravos FC (0-2-1) announced the new coaching staff that will be at the helm of the franchise for the remainder of the Bravos 2010 season in the PDL following the termination of Ismael Moreira Braga’s services made effective on Monday morning.
Head Coach: Mr. Juan de Dios Garcia
Juan de Dios Garcia joins the Bravos with the intent of bringing a winning season to Bravos fans, the City of Brownsville, and the Rio Grande Valley. Garcia is a pioneer, founder, coordinator, board member, referee and coach of all youth and adult Brownsville Soccer Leagues, and has 47 years of soccer experience in the region.
He is and has been a member of most the All-Star soccer teams in both Texas and Mexico. During the 1970s, Garcia was a Third Division Professional player in Tamaulipas, Mexico, a state champion, and a member of the V.M.C soccer team that won the Mexican National Championship.
He also coached "Atletico Arsenal", a prospective Division Professional Team in Matamoros, Tamaulipas in 1978-79, and in 1980-81, played for The University of Texas-Pan American.
Garcia earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education in Spanish and Sociology in 1982 from UTPA. Upon graduation, he began his position as head soccer coach at Brownsville Hanna High School.
Garcia continues to hold the position at Hanna High School along with other positions in professional organizations such as President of the Rio Grande Valley Soccer Coaches Organization and the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches, where he was named Regional Director in 2005.
Assistant Coach: Mr. Salvador Garcia
Salvador Garcia, currently the Head Boys’ soccer coach at Brownsville Rivera High School, has also had his share of successes and joins the organization looking to help bring glory to the ranks of the Bravos. A Brownsville native and former player under Coach J.D. Garcia during his days at Brownsville Hanna High School, he holds the distinction of being Brownsville Rivera High School’s most successful coach since the inception of the school’s program. He is well known for bringing success to the school’s program including winning several District Championships as well as making consistent appearances in the playoffs leading up to the UIL State Championship Tournament.
Assistant Coach: Mr. Everardo Rodriguez Plata
A former opponent and fierce rival of Coach J.D. Garcia’s in his early playing days, Rodriguez Plata played for Club de Futbol Nuevo Leon Jabatos (the predecessor of UANL Tigres in 1960) and later for Rayados of Monterrey of the Mexican First Division from the mid-1970’s. to the mid-1980’s. Alongside Coaches J.D. and Salvador Garcia, Rodriguez Plata aims to bring his knowledge of the game to help this Bravos franchise move into the postseason.
RGV Bravos FC welcomes the new coaching staff into the family, and looks forward to their work with players and staff to usher in a positive new era in the hopes of bringing a winning season to the City of Brownsville and the Rio Grande Valley.
