Chill Dominate Season Honors
Swartzendruber Wins 2010 Scoring Race

USL News Release

July 27, 2010

TAMPA, Fla. The Thunder Bay Chill used one of the most potent forward combinations in the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League to terrorize opponents all season. On most occasions, it was Brazilian forward Gustavo Oliveira-Araujo de F providing the setup, and PDL veteran Brandon Swartzendruber adding the finishing touch. The combination was so successful, Swartzendruber and Oliveira-Araujo de F swept the offensive categories for the 2010 PDL regular season honors.

Swartzendruber has earned the Scoring Champion (35 points) and Goal Scoring Champion (15) honors, while Oliveira-Araujo de F takes home title of Assist Leader (13). They are joined by Portland Timbers U23s keeper Jacob Gleeson, who allowed a miniscule five goals against in 15 games to take home the Goals-Against Average Champion title with a 0.360 average.

Swartzendruber, a Colorado native who spent the 2009 season with the Harrisburg City Islanders of USL-2, also helped Thunder Bay capture the 2008 PDL Championship and hes hoping to repeat the feat this season. His offense helped the Chill finish 12-2-2 and take the Heartland Division crown, and a Friday playoff date with a dangerous Forest City London squad looms on the horizon.

Oliveira-Araujo de F is no stranger to PDL post-season honors, having also captured the Assist Leader title with Thunder Bay in 2007. Gleeson was one of the main cogs in a Portland defense that allowed only six goals in 16 games as the Timbers U23s turned in a perfect 16-0-0 season. All three honorees are hoping to lead their teams to the 2010 PDL Championship, August 6-7 at a site to be determined. The 2010 PDL Championship Final will be televised live on FOX Soccer Channel at 7 p.m. ET on August 7.

The 2010 PDL All-Conference Teams will be announced on Monday, August 2, followed by the All-League Team on Tuesday, August 3. The finalists for Coach of the Year, Defender of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player will be announced on Wednesday, August 4, with the awards being presented at the PDL Championship banquet on Friday, August 6. Goalkeeper of the Year will also be presented at the banquet.
