TAMPA, Fla. – United Soccer Leagues is proud to announce the addition of North Sound SeaWolves FC to the Premier Development League for the 2011 season. Principally owned by local businessman Alex Silva, the SeaWolves will play their home games at Goddard Memorial Stadium in Everett, Wash.
“Having Snohomish County represented in the PDL is an exciting proposition,” Silva said. “It will benefit the community and players. I’m looking forward to seeing the involvement of the community and the development of the players; they are the ones that will make this organization successful.”
Silva is the former coach of the Yakima Reds and is also the owner of Pro Roofing NW, a successful roofing company that serves Snohomish County and northwest Washington. The SeaWolves mission is to promote and to grow the beautiful game of soccer in Snohomish County and northwest Washington by building a competitive team that will help its players achieve their goal of playing at the highest levels.
The SeaWolves organization also aims to be a leader in the Snohomish County community, providing affordable family entertainment for local fans and free and economical soccer programs and clinics. The club will also partner with local businesses to donate tickets to local organizations.
“USL is very excited to welcome the North Sound SeaWolves to the PDL,” PDL Senior Director Jeff McRaney said. “The ownership group is very familiar with the PDL and will do an outstanding job putting a quality program together. We look forward to having the group compete in 2011 and beyond. “
The top U23 men’s league in North America, the USL Premier Development League (PDL) featured 67 teams within four conferences across the United States and Canada in 2010. The PDL season consists of 16 regular season matches for each team, eight home and eight away, and provides elite collegiate players the opportunity to taste a higher level of competition while maintaining their eligibility.
In addition to league play, PDL teams compete in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup as well as various exhibitions. The USL Premier Development League has proven to be an important stepping stone for top professionals now playing throughout the world. This year’s PDL champions were the Portland Timbers U23s, which defeated the Thunder Bay Chill, 4-1, in the final.
