OKC's Black Named Player of the Week
Two goals led rally to victory in key Mid South Division clash

PDL News Release

Thursday, June 13, 2013

TAMPA, Fla. – The PDL announced its Team of the Week for the sixth week of the season today, with Oklahoma City FC forward Adam Black being honored as the Player of the Week. Black, a rising senior at Oklahoma City University, had a pair of goals to lead OKC to a crucial comeback victory against the Laredo Heat on Saturday night.

Oklahoma City entered Saturday’s game in second place in the Mid South Division, two points ahead of Laredo, but having played two additional games. The Heat jumped out to an early lead, and added a second goal early in the second half. Black began OKC’s comeback in the 68th minute, and a minute later his teammate Tommy Hubbard tied the game. Oklahoma City pushed forward for a winner, and was rewarded with a penalty kick that Black converted with eight minutes remaining.

Black, who had 12 goals for Oklahoma City College this past fall to lead the NAIA program, is now tied for the PDL goals lead (8) with Michigan’s Zach Steinberger. With the native of Liverpool, England leading the way, OKCFC has a strong chance of reaching the playoffs in the club’s first season in the PDL.

Joining Black in the Team of the Week attack are Long Island’s Tyler Botte, who had both goals in the Rough Riders’ victory against the NJ LUSO Rangers, and Anthony Asante, who led Ocean City to a big 3-1 win against the Jersey Express in a key Mid Atlantic Division clash.

Fresno’s Paul Islas leads the midfield contingent after scoring the game-winning goal in the Fuego’s 1-0 road win against FC Tucson, and he is joined by K-W United’s Jay Chapman, who played a key role in his side’s victory against the River City Rover this past Friday. Laredo’s Joao Montero, who had two goals and an assist in his side’s victory against West Texas, also earned selection, as did West Virginia’s Matt Brown, whose two goals led the Chaos to victory against the SC United Bantams on Saturday night.

Washington’s Spencer Richey took the goalkeeping honors after recording a shutout as the Crossfire handed the Portland Timbers U-23s their first defeat of the season. The defensive trio was made up of Thunder Bay’s Nolan Intermoia, who had a goal and helped his side record a pair of shutouts against St. Louis, Vancouver’s Michael Winter, who had a late game-winner for the Whitecaps U-23 against North Sound on Friday night, and Portland’s Bryan Gallego, who played a key role in the Timbers U-23s containing the Sounders FC U-23 attack in their 1-0 win on Sunday.
