EL PASO, TX -- United Soccer Leagues announced Friday that Daniel Frias of the PDL finalist El Paso Patriots has been honored as the 2005 Most Valuable Player for the past regular season as voted on by team coaches and general managers.
Frias returned to the All-League Team for a second straight year after leading his Patriots to an 11-3-2 record with 17 goals and five assists in 11 games. He ranked fifth in points and third in goals in the league.
The Patriots won the regular season conference championship via a goal differential tiebreaker with Cocoa and went on to defeat the defending PDL champion Central Florida Kraze in the first round of the playoffs with a goal from Frias. He scored both tallies in their 2-0 conference championship win over Laredo and added another two, including the winner against the Richmond Kickers Future in the league semifinal, a 4-3 decision, to advance to the championship this Saturday.
Frias won the Scoring and Goal Scoring Championship last season with 25 goals and six assists, leading his team to a 15-3-0 record only to fall in the first round.
