TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced Wednesday the Team of the Week honors for the Premier Development League, honoring Carolina’s Ben Hunter as the first Player of the Week for the 2006 season.
Hunter thrilled the opening night Carolina Dynamo crowd of 1,100 fans at Macpherson stadium with a natural hat-trick followed by two assists as the home side stunned a veteran Nashville Metros squad 6-1.
Hunter kicked the scoring off 13 minutes in on the Dynamo’s first shot of the game and added his second eight minutes later when the ball was not cleared on a corner kick. A cross from Darryl Roberts capped Hunter’s goal scoring on the night just 32 minutes into the game for a 3-0 lead.
Roberts would go on to make it 4-0 before Nashville broke the shutout in the 43rd, but Hunter made a little more noise just before the break with the first of his two assists on the night, finding Roberts for his second goal.
Hunter, an Englishman attending the University of North Carolina, played in 13 games for the Dynamo last season, registering four goals and four assists.
The W-League 2006 gets in full swing this weekend with the Team of the Week making its debut next Wednesday, May 17.
