TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced Thursday its W-League and Premier Development League Teams of the Week for the 12th week of the season, honoring Cocoa’s Erin Switalski and Bradenton’s Hunter West as the Players of the Week, respectively.

The expansion Cocoa Expos Women vaulted themselves into potential playoff position with a pair of important wins over the visiting Hampton Roads Piranhas, 3-0, and Atlanta Silverbacks, 1-0, over anchored by goalkeeper Erin Switalski.

Switalkski made eight saves while shutting out the Piranhas Thursday evening for her sixth shutout of the season and another 13 against the Silverbacks Sunday for her seventh clean sheet.

The results moved her to second in the league in wins and first in shutouts with seven each. She also currently ranks second in the league in goals against average at 0.72.

The Bradenton Academics used a pair of wins over rivals Palm Beach and Cocoa last week to move eight points clear at the top of their division with the playoffs just around the corner. Hunter West played a critical role in both victories with three goals and an assist.

The Academics dumped the Pumas 6-0 Wednesday with West scoring two of the first three goals. He struck the opening tally in the 40th minute and expanded to the 2-0 lead in the 56th as they cruised to the win after only a 1-0 first half.

On Saturday, the Academics fell behind to Cocoa at home and trailed 1-0 at the half. West put the game on level terms a minute into the second half with his ninth of the campaign and set up Anthony Ampaitakwong in the 83rd for the 2-1 game-winner.
