PONTIAC, MI - The Michigan Bucks open up their 2008 campaign Friday night with a preseason friendly match against the Windsor Border Stars at Ultimate Soccer Arenas (7:30 PM kickoff). Bucks head coach Dan Fitzgerald will have an interesting mix of players to choose from, as he has only one week left to trim his opening day roster to the 26 players that will make up the 2008 Michigan Bucks Premier Development League (PDL) side that will open the regular season on Saturday, May 17 at Ultimate Soccer. Although several of the Bucks star players have yet to report to training camp that opened on May 1 (due to college or professional soccer commitments), Fitzgerald has had his hands full with over thirty five quality players who have been diligently trying to secure a highly coveted spot this past week on one of North America’s premier PDL franchises.

The Border Stars are a member of the Canadian Soccer League, a national league as recognized by the Canadian Soccer Association. The side is led by (former Buck) Player/Owner Jeff Hodgson and Bucks’ Hall of Famer Tino Scicluna. Bucks fans will recognize several other former Bucks players that will return to face off against the home side, wearing the Border Stars colors. Windsor won back-to-back Canada Open Cups (Canada’s equivalent to the US Open Cup) in 2004 and 2005.

Tickets for the international clash are $7 Adults and $5 Youth (under 16), with children under 5 admitted for free.

SPECIAL OFFER FOR OPENING NIGHT

As a special promotion to all fans who attend Friday’s match, everyone in attendance will receive a $2 discount on all tickets purchased that night for next Saturday’s Regular Season Home Opener against the West Virginia Chaos. Regular season ticket prices for VIP Midfield Reserved (normally $14) are only $12, Adult General (normally $10) - $8, Youth General (under 16 normally $5) - $3. Children 5 and under are always free to Bucks games. This $2 per ticket discount will ONLY be honored for tickets purchased Friday night during the Bucks-Border Stars game.

BUCKS ANNOUNCE PRE-MATCH YOUTH TOURNAMENTS

The Michigan Bucks are currently looking for teams of all age groups, both boys and girls, to take part in a pre-match 4-team tournament. Before each Bucks home game we will have 4 teams from a selected age group take part in a one-game knockout style tournament. Each team is guaranteed a 25 minute game, and the winners will play another 25 minute game to decide that night’s champion. The team that wins will be recognized on the field at halftime by the home crowd at the Michigan Bucks game.
To enter the tournament each team must purchase a minimum of 20 tickets at $10 each. With these tickets your team can enjoy the highest level of outdoor soccer in the state of Michigan from our Centerfield section.
