The Yakima Red's forward line helped the Reds get their season off to a solid start. Jake Sagare and Junior Garcia made their presence known in their return to the Reds, scoring all of the goals as Yakima shut out the Spokane Spiders 3-0 on Saturday night at Spokane Falls Community College in Spokane.
Sagare, who last played for the Reds in 2001, scored twice, once in each half, and assisted on a second-half goal by Garcia, who also had an assist in his first game with the team since suffering a broken collarbone early in the 2007 season.
"Their speed and talent get along real well, and they have plenty of both," said Yakima coach Hector Vega. "The whole team played great. Everything went perfect."
Yakima's defense was solid as well, with keepers Robert McCurdy and Brett Axelrod combining for seven saves. With the defensive line including; Alvaro Valencia, Juan Viveros, Victor Calderon, and Josh Hacker, Spokane had a difficult time getting close enough to be a threat.
Sagare scored the first goal in the 20th minute into the match. The teams then went scoreless, until Junior Garcia scored with four minutes left in regulation. Jacob Sagare put the game winner, and his second goal of the game into the back of the net, two minutes later.
