LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Legends treated fans to six goals in 90 minutes, when they wiped out Orange County Blue Star 6-1 at Azusa Pacific University’s Cougar Stadium, on Wednesday, June 11th.
The win puts the LA Legends in first place, tied at 20 points with Fresno Fuego, but edging ahead with one less loss and a record of (5-1-2) exactly midway through the season.
Amir Shafii began the scoring in the 12th minute, and Blue Star battled back, hoping to equalize. In the 38th minute, a strong driven shot from Matt Hodges found its way through a crowded box and into the net, giving Hodges his first goal of the season. Davis Paul had the assist on both.
Then it was only a matter of time until Paul finished a few goals himself, scoring twice in five minutes, in the 54th and 59th minutes of the match, both times unassisted. Paul’s five goals in four matches rank him in the top-ten for both goals and points in the PDL.
Mid-fielder Tyler Thuresson, and defender Jared Karkas also added goals in the 59th and 62 minutes amidst a shaken-up Blue Star that struggled to reorganize. LA Legends goalkeeper, Brent Douglas played the full 90 and picked up nine saves.
Orange County Blue Star’s Matt Murphy did manage to squeak in only the 4th goal the LA Legends have allowed in 8 games.
The LA Legends hit the road next Thursday, June 19th to challenge the Fresno Fuego, before returning home for four straight matches beginning with the San Francisco Seals on Friday, June 20th at 7:30 p.m. All home matches are at Azusa Pacific University’s Cougar Stadium.
