DENVER, CO -- Real Colorado has announced an expansion of its existing partnership with United Soccer Leagues. Effective with the 2009 campaign, Real Colorado has acquired a Premier Development League franchise that will likely participate in the Central Conference of the PDL. The team moniker will be the Real Colorado Foxes.
The team will play a full schedule in 2009, and is also scheduled to play exhibition matches in 2008.
The name Foxes is reminiscent of the Colorado Foxes that played in the A-League (now USL First Division) from 1990-97, winning back-to-back championships in 1992-93 and reaching a third straight final in 1994. The Foxes of the late 80’s and early 90’s were coached by current Real Colorado Senior Director of Coaching, Lorne Donaldson.
Real Colorado Board Member and Acting Foxes General Manager Mark Mais has indicated that, “Real Colorado has purchased the Premier Development League franchise, to complement our current Cougars W-League squad, to give Real bookend men’s and women’s teams that will showcase the best soccer in the south metro Denver area. In the highly competitive Denver soccer market, we now have a vertically integrated organization with our benchmark youth soccer club, U.S. Soccer Youth Development Academy, as well as our flagship PDL and W-League franchises. There will be further initiatives from Real, in partnership with USL, in the near future, so please stay tuned.”
The Foxes will play an exhibition schedule for the 2008 season including their home opener at Shea Stadium in Highlands Ranch on Sunday March 25th versus potential Heartland Division foes, the Des Moines Menace (6:30 P.M.). The team will also have 2 double header matches, in conjunction with the W-League Cougars games, on Sunday June 1st and Monday June 23rd. The opponents for these matches are the Colorado Rapids U23’s and the Springfield Demize, respectively. The Foxes will also play road games at the Kansas City Brass on Wednesday July 9th and at the Des Moines Menace on Saturday July 12th.
Additionally, the Des Moines exhibition is a fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation of Des Moines.
Management staff, coaching staff, and player decisions for the new franchise will be communicated in the near future. For further information about the Foxes, please visit us at our website at www.realcolorado.net or call 303-324-1281.
