KALAMAZOO, MI -- The Kalamazoo Outrage proudly announced the signing of four Buffalo, NY based players, pending USL/PDL approval. Three of the four - Dan Bulley, Bobby Shuttleworth and Eric Johnson - ply their college trade with MAC conference powerhouse the University of Buffalo Bulls. The fourth, Alan McGreal plays for the Bulls cross-town rivals Canisius College.
Outrage PDL head coach Stu Riddle said the completion of these signings spoke volumes for the off season recruiting strategy implemented well in advance of the Outrages' debut season. "We quite literally have scouts looking out for us all over the world. I was informed of these recruits by our New York based contact and after studying game tapes on them knew immediately that they would come in and all help us."
Bulley, 23, comes in with a big reputation. The powerful striker who was once on the books of Plymouth Argyle in England has been a chart topping goal scorer throughout his career and is determined that this will continue in Kalamazoo.
"I am delighted to have signed for the Kalamazoo Outrage and I am excited to be joining this ambitious club,” said Bulley. “From day one I have realized that it has a very good set up including a great coaching team. I aim to be very successful during my time here. I want to help push the club upwards and to also push on myself by getting back into the pro game. I feel that I am in the right place to do so."
Bulley has scored 17 goals in the last two college seasons and Riddle expects big things from the Exeter, England native. "Dan is a real handful to play against. Not only does he possess great size he has the speed to match. He will know there will be pressure on him to find the net and I've no doubt he will produce."
Shuttleworth, 21, is also confident of a productive PDL season at goalkeeper. "I look forward to this season and a different type of opportunity than any I have encountered before. I hope to improve myself while gaining success on the field."
The Manitoba, NY native has accumulated a great reputation in the MAC conference and capped of an all conference tournament selection with a man of the match performance in the conference final against Akron. Shuttleworth will be a junior with the Bulls in the fall of 2008.
Riddle is confident that Shuttleworth can transfer his MAC conference reputation to the PDL. "I'm not bringing guys in to hang about for the summer. Bobby's work ethic will demand the best out of the other keepers in the squad and I expect this specialist position to be hotly contested."
Johnson, 21, who can play as an attacking midfielder or striker began his college career at Wright State University, gathering 33 appearances for the Raiders. His recent transfer to the Bulls has seen him become an instant hit, and in 2007 he made 18 starts for his new side. The Cleveland, OH native will enter his senior year with the Bulls in the fall of 2008.
Johnson is itching to get going in Kalamazoo. "I am very much looking forward to this upcoming PDL season. The Outrage offers many opportunities for me as well as the other players. The additional affiliation with Sheffield Wednesday will be nothing other than great for player development. I hold high expectations for the club and would like to finish top of our region and go on to the finals from there."
