SALEM, OR – Former Surge Goalkeeper and Corban College Alum Brett Bentley has returned to Salem to be an Assistant Coach with the Cascade Surge. Brett played with the Surge in 2005 and 2006 before moving onto play with A.F.C. Waldorf in Waldorf, Germany.
After playing in Germany Brett moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he coached at the competitive club and collegiate level.
On the field, the Surge has resigned returning players, Stefen Ostergren from the University of Akron and Tim Starr from Colorado Christian University. Ostergren was the team’s leading scorer last season and Starr was tied for most games played (16) and fifth in minutes played.
The Surge is also pleased to announce the addition of Rev. John Boyers to the team’s Advisory Board. The Rev. Boyers, a personal friend of Surge President Dave Irby, is the National Director of SCORE and Chaplain for Manchester United.
Rev. Boyers currently is the head of SCORE, a Chaplaincy program for all sports in the United Kingdom. In addition to his role at SCORE Rev. Boyers serves as the team Chaplain for the historic Manchester United Football Club.
The Rev. Boyers has also served as team Chaplain for the English National Soccer Team and written a book entitled "Beyond the Final Whistle, A Life of Football and Faith."

The Cascade Surge opens its 14th season of United Soccer Leagues competition on Friday, May 9 in Yakima, Washington against the Reds. Their home opener is on Friday, May 23 against the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency Program. That match is set to kickoff at 7:05 PM (PST) from McCulloch Stadium at Willamette University.
