Friday, April 18 KALAMAZOO, MI – The Kalamazoo Outrage today announced the completion of four more signings to add to an already impressive list as they rapidly close in on their debut season in the Premier Development League. A 22-year old central defender David Reed, who had the prestigious honor of being named an NAIA All American in the fall of 2007, will be joined by highly sought after youth stars Adam Mena, Noble Sullivan and South Haven bred Doug Raak.
"When Coach [Stu] Riddle contacted me in regards to playing with the Kalamazoo Outrage, I was extremely excited about the opportunity of being part of such a high caliber team,” said Reed. "The expectations for the club this summer are great, but coupled with the players and coaching staff, we will most certainly have a great season."
Reed, a Bedford, IN native, enjoyed a successful career at Indiana Wesleyan University that saw him named a three time first team all conference selection (2005-07), a two time first team all region selection (2006-07), Region VIII player of the year (2007) and third team NAIA All American (2007).
"In David, we have an experienced player who can play as a left sided central defender or a left back,” said Riddle. “His awards speak for them self and the coaching staff is now eager to see him in action for the Outrage.”
Mena, Sullivan and Raak will fill the three mandatory U19 roster spots, but could easily find themselves right in the mix of game action.
"Adam will be playing for Notre Dame in the fall,” said Riddle. “Noble has every college in the country chasing after him, and Doug will be turning out for Western Michigan at the end of the summer. My view is if you are good enough you are old enough to play and I cannot wait to see these young lads compete for [playing time] with the veterans.”
Sullivan, 17, has just returned from a trip to Europe as a Region II representative. The trip enabled him to experience playing against youth teams from all over the world.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for a high school student,” said Sullivan. “I plan to work as hard as I can to contribute to the team and meet the program's expectations. I am looking forward to gaining invaluable experience playing at this, very competitive level."
The 18-year old pair, Mena and Raak, who will play this fall for Clark at Notre Dame and Chris Karwowski at Western Michigan respectively, are also relishing the challenge.
"This is a very good opportunity to become a more complete player with the level and caliber of players coming to play this summer," said Mena.
"I am looking forward to working with the coaching staff of the Outrage and making myself a better all-around player,” said Raak. “[The experience] will help me ready myself to play at the next level in the fall.”
Raak currently plays on the U18 team for the Outrage’s parent club TKO Premier.
Fans in Kalamazoo can get their first glimpse of all four new signings and the rest of the Kalamazoo Outrage on Sunday, May 4 when they host Club Guanajuato, a local Latino Select side. The match will kick off at 3 PM at Mayors Riverfront Stadium in downtown Kalamazoo and will be open to the public free of charge.
