VICTORIA, BC - Robbie Veenhof, who helped lead Gorge FC of the Vancouver Island Soccer League to five League Championships as well as five Jackson Cups, has signed a United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League agreement with Victoria Highlanders FC.

Veenhof, 30-years old, graduated from the University of Victoria and has played the past season with the VISL Division I Gorge FC, earning a nomination as the B.C. 2008 Senior Player of the Year. He is the seventh player signing on the Highlanders FC roster, joining the ranks alongside Cole McFarlane, Patrick Gawrys, Dan Kilpatrick, Jordie Hughes, Paul VandenBoomen, and Craig Robertson.

“Having played for Gorge and living in the area, I have always wanted to play in the highest standard of soccer for our region,” Veenhof said. “To reach that goal and do so by playing for the first USL team in Victoria is extremely special for me and also very exciting for the community.”

Each of the past two seasons Veenhof has earned the VISL Most Valuable Player award, as well as winning a BC Provincial Championship with Gorge FC in 2008.

“We’re very excited to have a player of Robbie’s experience and leadership,” said head coach Colin Miller. “I’ve seen him play for Gorge FC and I also followed his career when he was with the University of Victoria. He’s a defender with great poise and a quality footballer.”
